BIOGRAPHY
The story of Kordon is not unique in any way. Their music, on the other hand, most definitely is. This is the story about the band no-one believed in.
What was once a not so serious band with an improbable future has, through favourable circumstances, become a band that delivers classic pop songs in an irresistible format. Having begun as an experiment wandering on the borders between pop, r n b, funk and jazz-fusion, Kordon have successfully developed a completely individual style with influences from Nirvana, Kiss, Frank Zappa, Abba and many more. The things linking all these bands are the clever melodies and sometimes unexpected harmonic twists, along with the fact that they all have a tendency to be either loved or hated by the public.
Kordons music can best be described as melodic and intelligent pop with lots of humour. There is also a serious thread flowing through the core of the lyrics, and the fact is that few Swedish artists have the same flair for usage of the English language as Kordon.
Like most bands, Kordon came together by chance. All attended the same school, but didnt know each other particularly well. In 2000, Kim Wennerström and Johan Nääs ended up in the same band. They werent really taking things seriously but, all the same, took part in the big competition, Musik Direkt - and got through to the finals. The following year, whilst recording, they found themselves in need of a singer. Camilla Falk happened to be available for the session and turned out to be exactly what they were looking for. This trio got together and started the journey into serious music-making.
All around them, they often heard that theyd never amount to anything. There was no-one who believed in them and many assumed that the band would be yet another in a long line of bands forever stuck in the rehearsal studio. Despite this negativity, Kordon ploughed on and continued to produce music. At last, a demo landed on a desk at Dead Frog Records, and the reaction was immediate. Dead Frog gave the band top marks and Kordons Kim was so pleased that someone finally believed in them that he printed out the review and stuck it on his wall. For the first time, there someone who really understood their music. Their self-esteem strengthened and contact with Dead Frog Records intensified. Shortly thereafter a recording contract was signed and a band with a promising future were given the chance no-one ever thought theyd get.
The album, Totally Not Lame, released in May 2004, is a strong debut offering pop-classics of the future, to love or to hate.
